Obituary

Susan Marie Bonchak, age 64, entered into eternal rest on Christmas morning, December 25, 2022 after a brief battle with cancer.
She was born in Cleveland, Ohio on August 18,1958, to Alice Bonchak (nee: Ehrbar) and Edward Bonchak (both deceased).

Susan was the proud and loving mother of Dr. Jonathan G. Bonchak; dearest sister of Cathy (Joe) Yourkvitch, Edward (Jeannie) Bonchak Jr., Nancy (Dan Woolman) Buckley and Carol (Matthew, deceased) DiBiase.

Her deep love of family extended to nieces, Katrina Bennett, Elizabeth (Edwin) Pacheco, Natalie (Pete) Kavalecz, Vanessa Bonchak, Jocelyn (Joe) Mariano, Christina DiBiase; great-nieces Olivia Harris,  Jane and Paige Kavalecz, Nicolette and Brielle Mariano; and great-nephews Anthony Harris, Edwin and Evan Pacheco, Alex Henry and Robert Bonchak.

She also leaves behind beloved friends Anne (Barron) Serna and Steve “Cubby” Wooley and her devoted pups, Angel and Mona.

Susan graduated from West Technical High School in Cleveland and went on to work with the Veteran’s Hospital in Cleveland as well as serving in various positions within the local food industry.  Her generous, compassionate spirit led her to become a principal caregiver for several people, including lifelong friend, Sharron DeCosta (deceased).

Possessing innate artistic skills, Susan shared her vast talents by gifting friends and family with countless creative pieces.

Renowned for her horticultural abilities, Susan’s garden was always filled with a bounty of flowers, fruits and vegetables that she benevolently shared with others.  At summer’s end she harvested hundreds of seeds and spread them throughout her loving circle of neighbors, family and friends to be planted and enjoyed. In 2022 Susan’s gardens were a featured stop within the GardenWalk of Cleveland’s annual tour.

As a lover of all types of music, Susan knew hundreds of songs by heart and encouraged others to sing and dance along with her, sharing the simple joys of life.

Throughout her final hours she remained light-hearted and cheerful, lifting the spirits of those surrounding her.

With exceptional talents, an invaluable ability to fully enjoy the smallest pleasures in life, and an impassioned love for all, Susan’s unique spirit will be exceedingly missed and always cherished.
