Nikolaos "Nick" Statheros age 91, entered into eternal rest Sunday, May 23, 2021.
Beloved husband of the late Maria. Loving father of Anna Papadorotheou (Thanasis) and the late
Evangelos. Dearest pappou of Nickolas and Despina Sclimenti ( Nicholas) and loving great pappou of
Thanasi. Dear brother, nouno, uncle and friend of many.
Nikolaos was born on the island of Syros, Greece and served as an altar boy during his youth.
During his requisite military service in the Greek Navy, he assisted the military chaplain as a cantor and
altar server. The Chaplain offered to send him to the seminary, but by this time Nick had married Maria and
had to decline with regret as he needed to work to provide for his family as a mechanical engineer with the
Greek Merchant Marine. After arriving to America in 1968, he worked at Triad Metal Products as a machine
press operator. He enjoyed growing and sharing produce from his garden and relaxing by watching soccer games.
He loved taking his grandchildren to Kiddie Park when they were younger.
He was an active member of St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, where he devoted much of his time with his
late wife. He served as a subdeacon and a part-time cantor, serving every Sunday, holy day, wedding, baptism
and funeral; and teaching the altar boys about Sunday Liturgy. In recognition to his volunteerism, Nick was honored
with the St. Photios Award by the Metropolis of Pittsburg. He will be remembered for chanting and was a volunteer
for the many festivals helping prepare the lamb shanks and cooking calamari. He will be ever remembered as a loving
soul to all his family and friends. May his memory be eternal.
All funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 26, 2021, 11am at the St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church
22909 Center Ridge Road, where the family will receive friends 10 am until time of services.
