Maria Statheros (nee Demas) age 85,
went to be with the Lord Sunday, October 11, 2020.
Beloved wife of Nikolaos; Loving mother of Anna Papadorotheou (Thanasi)
and the late Evangelos. Dearest yiayia of Nickolas and Despina Sclimenti (Nicholas);
Treasured great-yiayia of Baby Thanasi. Dear aunt and friend of many.
Maria was born in Piraeus, Greece and after coming to America in 1968, she worked as a seamstress for many years. She enjoyed sewing, cooking and tending to her garden. Most important, she continued sharing her faith for the Lord and Panagia with her family and friends. She was an active member of St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, where she devoted much of her time, always praising the Lord and chanting the Paraklesis. In recognition to her volunteerism, Maria was honored with the St. Photios Award by the Metropolis of Pittsburgh. She will be remembered for preparing the Kollyva and was an active volunteer for many festivals making her famous Saganaki and artichokes. She will be forever remembered as a gentle, loving soul to all her family and friends. May her memory be eternal.
All funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 13, 11am at the St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church 22909 Center Ridge Road, where the family will receive friends 10am until time of services. Rev. Father Costas Keares, officiating.
Interment St. Theodosius Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, St. Demetrios Philoptochos, Hospice of the Western Reserve and NAMI Greater Cleveland.
