Efstratios “Charles” Hliatzos
January 20, 1939 - September 3, 2023
Charles Hliatzos peacefully entered into eternal rest on September 3, 2023 surrounded by his wife, children and grandchildren.
Beloved husband of Fotini (nee Zohos) for 61 years.
Loving father of Procopios (Elpida), Peter (Katina), Taso (Debbie) and Dimitrios “Jimmy” (deceased).
Proud Papou of Charlie, Strato, Michael, Faye, Alex and Nicholas.
Dearest Theo and friend of many in the United States, Greece and Australia.
Charles was born on January 20, 1939 in Moria, Mytilini, Greece to Procopios and Helen (nee Kampas). He was one of six children. Following his marriage, he and his family lived in Australia, and then immigrated to Cleveland, Ohio in 1968, where he became employed at TRW’s Valve Division. He later realized the American dream by owning his own business. He was the proprietor of Fotina’s Restaurant for 30 years in the Collinwood area of Cleveland, serving thousands of meals with the help of his sons. He truly enjoyed his work, and treated his employees and customers like family.
From 1994 to 2014, he and his wife spent their winters in Port Richey, Florida, becoming fixtures in the Tarpon Springs Greek community. A consummate DIYer, Charles loved working on cars and fixing things around the house. He enjoyed lending his expertise to his family and friends. In his later years, nothing brought him greater joy than spending time with his six grandchildren. He loved cooking for them, joking with them and sharing stories about his childhood in Mytilini.
May his memory be eternal. He will forever be in our hearts.
